The first thing to think about is the size you would like the portrait to be, A4 or A3 are usually a good size to go for, as they allow for enough detail in the image and give it space to ‘breathe’ on the page. They will also fit the space in most homes nicely without being too dominating or cumbersome. If you are commissioning a head & shoulder portrait, A3 or A4 is usually sufficient, whereas more than one subject or full-body portraits will need to be A3 or larger. I can work to any size though, so if you have a particular frame in mind or place you want to display the finished portrait I can always accommodate this.
I work directly from a photograph supplied by you to create your portrait. Here are a few pointers on choosing the right photograph that will allow me to give you the best possible result:
- Choose a photograph that is relatively close up, so I can pick out enough detail and definition.
- The quality and definition of the photograph is important, so an original that has been scanned at high resolution (at least 300 dpi) or digital photograph is perfect. Photographs taken on your phone will be difficult for me to work from.
- Sometimes more natural shots, rather than posed photographs work better, as I’m able to capture more of a ‘mood’ in the portrait.
- You can email your photographs to me or send copies to:
